Ready? Set? Go!

Apparently, no one tells new witches what to do before they start casting circles except that there are certain things to do, but the order is important too!

1. Physical Cleansing

It is important to physically cleanse, not only where you intend to do spellwork, but also yourself.

Spells can be less effective in areas where energies are clustered together no matter how much spiritual cleansing you do of those energies.

Similarly, the body throughout the day and night collects different particles on the skin and in the hair, so it is important to feel clean in order to effectively cleanse an area.

2. Aura Cleansing

One of our favorite ways to cleanse the aura is after we have physically cleaned our body, we use our special ritual soap to cleanse our aura. You can buy these soaps on websites like etsy or make them yourself with unscented liquid body wash base. Our favorite is from Young Living!

Ritual Soap:

Ingredients:

  • Frankinscence essential oil (opens your mind to spirit)

  • Sandalwood essential oil (allows you to tap into your higher self)

  • Bergamont essential oil (uplifits spirits)

  • Liquid body wash base (unscented)

Directions:

  1. Mix however many drops of each essential oil you want into the gel base

  2. Shake to activate for each use, while channeling the energy of the ingredients with your intention

  3. Use after physically cleaning your area and body, but before spiritually cleansing the area in which you intend to do your working

3. Spiritually Cleanse the Energy in Your Spell Work Space

The most popular method, by far is using smoke to push out certain energies. HUGE NOTE: the smoke alone does not do the work, YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK. All the smoke does, is it gives you a visual aid so you can manipulate the energy in question.

Some witches, prefer smokeless options, like creating a spray to spray around the area, but the concept is the same. It is a visual aid only.

A Note on Sound: Sound is not used for “cleansing” in the same way other methods are used. Typically, sound is used to disrupt stagnant energy so one can pick and choose what energies they want in their workings space. One of the first two methods is then used.

Ideally, a witch will get to a point in his or her practice, where he or she does not need to depend on visual aids to manipulate the energy in a space.

4. Ground

See our post on grounding methods!

We ground after we cleanse, because grounding is the process of becoming energetically stable. Our emotions run high and make our energy volitile. This makes it difficult to pin an energy down to work with, which is imperative to spellwork.

5. Cast Circle (Optional)

Unless you’re a Wiccan, circle casting really isn’t necessary unless you plan on working with anything beside your personal energy: universal or divine.

6. Perform Your Spell

That’s it! That’s the order! Cleansing as we said comes BEFORE grounding. Happy casting!
