Spell Schedules

We are super big on organization and with all things witchcraft as with everything else, organization is key. All of us have trouble committing the time for spell work and/or prayer. We have found that making a schedule really does give us the accountability we need to see our spells manifest. Spell work is not a one time thing. You have to work constantly toward your goals. Spell work is meant to give you an edge you otherwise wouldn’t have but the key ingredient is always YOU.

There are bunches of ways to go about organizing your spell life and we will go over our favorite ways (we’ve tried a lot of methods). First, you’ll need to choose a medium for grimoire. Then you’ll need to decide how you want to organize your grimoire. Once you have spells in your grimoire, you should align them with the moon phases, days of the week, hours etc. Lastly, devise a system of adding spells to a schedule or calendar.

Step One: Choose a Medium for Your Grimoire

Most witches opt for a singular journal. We find this method incredibly disorganized and cluttered. It makes it difficult to quickly access important information and spells. Also, what if you need a specific spell? You are going to have to search through hundreds of pages eventually to find the one. This is utterly inefficient. There is a better way. Fear not!

I’ve tried many methods of organization. One such method is instead of using one journal to record your rituals and spells try getting multiple composition notebooks and separate them by subject so that you have volumes. If taking notes is your thing, you will find this method a lot more manageable than having just one notebook.

Some witches choose to keep their grimoire in a binder so they can easily move the pages around. This is a good method for those that wish to have a tangible grimoire. However, to quickly find something, you’ll have to have a very deep familiarity with how you have organized the grimoire.

I am a little boring in how I organize my spells and rituals. As an Excel junkie, I use a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. I find taking notes to be really time consuming and there is so much information out there. Reading witch books straight through is not a good way to retain information. Sure you can take notes, but you’ll find that they can be difficult to organize if you take them per book. So what better way than to organize by subject?

Step 2: Decide How to Organize Your Grimoire

Using one journal with bound pages leaves little organization options, but you can always leave the first 10 or so pages blank to add a table of contents where you can add each page you write.

You can choose to do the same for multiple volumes.

A binder is great because you can organize the pages by subject and organize the spells alphabetically or by difficulty.

My spreadsheet has two major tabs. The first is for spells and they are organized by function: love, self-improvement, banishing, etc. The second is for information and they are organized by subject: tarot, meditation, crystals, etc. Each of the tabs has the book name, page number, and title of the spell or section.

This is a much more efficient way to organize your spells, books, and materials, because it gives you a sort of table of contents for all your books (even if you have one or two they multiply like rabbits once you get going). See the below tables for ideas on how to organize your spreadsheet grimoire.

Step Three: Determine an Astrological Timeline for Spells

You can choose to further organize your spells by the moon phases and days of the week. See below for how we organize them on my spreadsheet. This method makes it much easier to get the correct timing on your spells.

Step Four: Devise a System to Schedule Spell Work

This is the entire point of this article! We just wanted to give you some foundational options above! We find that the best way to schedule spells is to put them on paper or in a calendar! We have a planner just for spell work. We have also found using an online calendar to be quite helpful.

To do this (and the very reason we suggested matching your spells to the moon phases and days of the week) you’ll want to refer to the notes on your spells about timing. This is also the reason we like to keep everything organized in a spreadsheet (see below), because it makes it so much easier to schedule things out. Scheduling also makes it easier to collect and purchase ingredients in advance, so you’ll never be lacking!

Start by finding the spell you are wanting to do, then note the day and moon phase. For example, if we have a spell to manifest a new job, we would want to do it on a Thursday. Then we would need to devise the moon phase. Since waxing moons are associated with attraction, we would choose to do the Spell on a Thursday during a waxing moon. Then we would add it into our calendar. And do this for each spell we want to do this month.

Note. When scheduling spells, try to keep them on separate days. If you absolutely must do multiple spells on the same day, keep them related. For example, try to do spells associated with money on the same day. Don’t do a love spell and a money spell on the same day. It will muck up your intention.

Well that’s all folks! Hope you found this helpful!
